Folkestone Channel Rotary Donates £1,500 to the Celia Blakey Cancer Care Centre at the William Harvey Hospital

Channel Rotary has donated £1,500 to the Celia Blakey Cancer Care Centre at the William Harvey Hospital.  The money was raised as part of Channel Rotary’s very successful first Folkestone Channel Triathlon in September which attracted 200 triathletes from the south east and will be repeated on Sunday 8th September 2019.  This donation follows the £2,500 that Chanel Rotary donated to the Centre in November 2017 to purchase a coffee machine for the patients.  In the second half of 2018, Channel Rotary has already raised and donated nearly £9,000 to local charities and good causes.

Unit Manager Lucy Turner and her team were delighted to receive the cheque from Channel Rotary President Bill Flavell accompanied by Community Service Committee member Brian Banks.  Appropriately, it was presented in front of the bell which is rung when each patient is discharged on completing their treatment.

President Bill Flavell said “We have great admiration for the work and staff of the Centre which has provided valuable support to some of our Club members and their families.”

In reply, Lucy Turner said “Thank you so much.  It’s a very generous donation and we’ll use it wisely to make life easier for our patients, some of whom may be here for up to 10 hours at a time.”
