Finalists for Who Will Care? Awards 2017 announced
With just over a week to go until the Who Will Care? Awards take place, we can now reveal the finalists in the running to win an award at next week’s ceremony.

Business Award
Awarded to a commercial organisation for making an impact on their community through volunteering:
- QBE Europe
- Stansted Airport
- Lifehouse Spa and Hotel
Voluntary Community Service Award
Awarded to a charity or community group who has made outstanding delivery to support their community and/or service users:
- Brentwood Community Print
- Harlow First Responders
- Good Gym Colchester
Individual Young Person Volunteer Award
Awarded for demonstrating outstanding commitment within their community either independently or with a charity or community/youth/school group:
- Ben Wallace
- Isabella Newsum
- Rebecca Fitzgerald
Individual Adult Volunteer Award
Awarded for demonstrating outstanding commitment within their community either independently or through a charity/community group or through their employer:
- Maria Wilby
- Carol Ranson
- Martyn Barter
Individual overcoming Adversity Award
Awarded for demonstrating outstanding commitment within their community either independently or through a charity/community group or through their employer, whilst overcoming personal adversity:
- Neil Crouch
- Dr. Ben Newman
- Annabelle Day
Innovation Award
Award for demonstrating innovation in initiating and developing a service/project to support the community:
- Bonnie Roberts
- Lads Need Dads – Sonia Shaljean
- Rochford Martial Arts – Gavin King
Volunteer Team Award
Awarded to a group of two or more volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution either independently or with a charity, community group or with their employer:
- Acorn Village
- Chelmsford Foodbank
- SANCTUS
The Who Will Care? Awards celebrate the mobilisation of vibrant communities and individuals that are supporting each other and to recognise and stimulate volunteering in Essex.
They will take place at The Lord Ashcroft Business school, Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, on Wednesday 24 May.
Cabinet member for Cabinet Member for Culture , Communities & Customer, Cllr Sue Barker said: “The Who Will Care? Awards is a fantastic opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate volunteering in Essex.
This year we received a record breaking number of nominations and everyone that was nominated should be proud of the great work they do. I am looking forward to celebrating with all of the finalists on the night.”
The awards will be hosted by BBC Essex’s Dave Monk and winners will be announced live on Twitter via @Essex_cc and via Facebook Live from the Essex County Council account.
