Faversham Community Christmas Lights need your support!

Faversham Community Christmas Lights need your support!

Each year the Christmas Lights display is erected by a group of volunteers, who work in all weather on Sundays during October and November. Faversham community do receive some financial support from Faversham Town Council, but the majority of the money required to complete the display comes from the kind people and local businesses of Faversham. The total cost is £9000 per year.

The community have been illuminating Faversham at Christmas for 34 years and hope to continue doing so for many years to come. Please don’t allow the lights to go out!

The people of Faversham understand that as we approach Christmas budgets do tighten. However, if you can spare any donation, no matter what size, it would be gratefully received. If you can’t donate, please do share this post with your friends

In the beautiful town of Faversham (Kent), the town of Kings, the Jewels in the crown light up with the magic of Christmas, every year for the past 34 years. A team of Volunteers give up their Sunday’s through October and November in all weathers, to put up a display of across street lights and features. The display is supported with some finance from Faversham Town Council, but the rest is down to the kind donations that are recieved. It costs Faversham Community approximately £9000 to put on a display for 1 festive period, which is a lot cheaper than Oxford Street – all the money raised goes into the display as those involved all volunteer!

What does a display cost and consist of?

• Approximately 4 miles of across the street cables.

• Some 5000+ lights bulbs – most of these now being energy efficient, which add to the expense.

• 60 plus individual features.

• Cost of Plant hire to put up the display

• And of course the Electricity bill!!!!!!

• Replacement of older features, cables and bulbs.

• And of course insurances including public liability

• About 15 Volunteers – more if you would like to join us!

Due to the age and construction of some of the buildings in Faversham’s historic town they are unable to place an illumination on every building – but they would like to look at new ways to expand the display and even incorporate modern technology – however this would cost extra!

Please donate as much or as little as you can, your help and support is greatly needed to help keep the magic of Christmas going for future generations!

This years switch on will take place on 25th November 2017 at 5pm!
