News from Sherfield Village Hall

It’s shaping up to be a delightfully busy year at Sherfield Village Hall!

Sherfield Fete – a great day out for everyone!

Sherfield Fete committee are ready to entertain you once again and to give everyone a great day out on Saturday 8th June.

The Medieval Combat Society is one of the leading and oldest re-enactment societies. It has over 60 members from all over England and Wales with family members of up to three generations from all walks of life.

The Society recreates some of the many chivalric knights’ foot tournaments which took place during the period of King Edward III (1327-1377) and his son Edward, The Black Prince. This was the time of Chaucer, the founding of the Order of the Garter and the start of the Hundred Years’ War.

The Knights take part in free-form, non-choreographed full contact combat displays, clad in armour and using a variety of weaponry authentic to the period.

Archers maintain their sharp shooting with practice at the butts under the watchful gaze of the archery master. Squires generally train with our combat masters for one or two years before becoming Knights.

The Society have performed re-enactments at many major venues throughout the UK. Each year, they are invited to fight at St Georges Day celebrations, at the annual Battle of Tewksbury 1471 (one of the largest re-enactments in the UK) and to France to the Battle of Crecy Festival. You may have seen some of their work for screen and TV: in Red Dwarf, Neverwhere, The Hollow Crown and Expedition Unknown.

As always, Sherfield Fete has lots to entice you! Here are some of the attractions:
