Hello from 1st Bramley Guides

1st Bramley Guides are a full Guide unit of 30 girls age 10 – 14 years old which includes three girls from Loddon School.

CommunityAd Exclusive - Hello from 1st Bramley GuidesThis last term we have been busy with a challenge from Southwest Girlguiding called the Swish! This has challenged us to look at sustainable fashion. The girls have made mood boards to reflex their tastes and hobbies, we tie-dyed t-shirts in a rainbow of colours, we made fashion items from newspaper and junk and we learnt sewing skills to upcycle an old item of clothing. All this ended with a catwalk performance to show of our items. The girls were so imaginative with their ideas and designs! We have also thought about how we purchase fashion.

The weekend after 22nd February we joined other Guide units in the area for a Sleepover and activities to mark Thinking Day. This is when Lord and Lady Baden-Powell asked Guides and Scouts to think of each other around the world. 22nd February was chosen as it was the joint birthday of Robert and Olave Baden-Powell. Amongst the activities we tried soft archery, designing a zoo and making ballistae.

CommunityAd Exclusive - Hello from 1st Bramley GuidesDuring March we also held a Pamper evening to mark Mother’s Day, we made lip scrub had face masks and generally treated our mums. If you live in Bramley, you may have heard us having a go at ringing the church bells (pictured right)! We also made a lovely sound with the handbells and explored the church.

As the Guides are so popular, we have started a Ranger unit for the 14 – 16-year-old girls these girls are running their own programme of activities.

If you would like to come and join our team of adults to help run these units or have girls 10 -16 who would like to join in, please register your interest online: www.girlguiding.org.uk
