An update from Barham Bowls Club

The weather’s changing, the sun’s getting higher in the sky and that means the bowls season is getting ready to begin. At Barham Bowls Club (no, that’s not just for old folk) our members are aged between 10 and 90, and we’re very keen to welcome new players at our friendly, informal club.

We kick off the season on April 13th, and while we’re playing a friendly competition, it’d be great to meet some more potential players on the day. Just come along to the green, next to Barham Village Hall, and see what it’s all about.

Bowls is a great way to keep active and healthy, and it’s something that’s as competitive as you’d like it to be. We play friendly matches, have social meets and play in a mixed league, so there really is something for everyone. Couples, families, people on their own – you’ll all find a warm welcome at Barham Bowls Club.

Our coach is always happy to help out new players, and it’s a much cheaper sport to be involved with than most. We’ve got loads of bowls for people to start off with, and buying your own set second-hand isn’t expensive, while we always offer half-price first year membership to help you out.

Not sure? We’re always happy to give you a taster session. Afternoons or evenings through the season, we’ll always make an effort to take you through the basics and let you have a go on the green. Do ask, we are really keen to showcase the sport!

On Monday evenings in Barham Village Hall, the team has been playing in the second division of the East Kent short mat bowls league. Their performance has been so impressive that they have been promoted to the first division, with the prospect of getting a second team out in the lower leagues next season. Even if you aren’t able to commit to a full season of afternoons on the outdoor green, you can always enjoy the short mat bowls between September and April.

Just give us a shout on Facebook or email [email protected] to see what it’s all about!
