Barham Bowls Club, East Kent

Right now at Barham Bowls, we’re putting our outdoor green through the autumn works programme, ensuring it’s ready for the new season in April.

However, we never stop! As the evenings draw in and the temperature drops, we take to Barham Village Hall for the indoor short-mat bowls season. We’d love to see more local people come along and have a go – we’ve got all you need to start, and there’s a great community feel to our club.

Both the outdoor and indoor bowls seasons include friendly roll-up games and league matches. During the summer, Barham Bowls have played in the East Kent Mixed Triples League, finishing with a morale-boosting home win against Canterbury. Friendly matches across East Kent have been played, with some wins, some defeats but always a lot of competitive fun.

Meanwhile, the internal competitions have seen lots of new faces doing well, with the finals day being played just as this issue is going to press. For those who just want to play informally, we’ve had a lot of roll-ups arranged through the club’s WhatsApp group. There really have been a lot of people playing and enjoying the excellent green next to Barham Village Hall.

In August, the club got together for a big friendly competition, with families invited along and the barbecue coming out at the end of the day.

Moving forward, our final day of outdoor play was on September 23rd, and we’re now setting up the short mats every Monday evening at 7pm and Wednesday afternoons at 2pm. Please come along to have a try; if you’d like to check we’re there on a particular day, email Neil on [email protected] or get in touch via the Barham Bowls Club website. If you’re more interested in the outdoor season, let us know and we’ll give you all the details for next season.

And just another thing – don’t think bowls is only for the elderly: our youngest member is only nine! Men, women and children are all very welcome, and we’re a fully inclusive, informal and welcoming club.
