Events for women interested in entering local politics

This year marks 100 years since women first got the vote. To celebrate, Lewes District Council is running three free events for women interested in local politics to encourage women to participate in local government and make a difference in their communities.

Each event will include practical advice and an informal discussion with a cross party group of women councillors on what it’s like to be a female councillor. There will also be a display on the suffrage movement in Sussex.

Event details

  • Seaford at the Clinton Centre, Wednesday 3 October, from 5pm to 7.30pm
  • Peacehaven at the Meridian Centre, Thursday 1 November from 5pm to 7pm
  • Ditchling at the Village Hall, Tuesday 4 December from 5pm to 6.30pm.

The events were the idea of Councillor Sarah Osborne who said: “We need more women in positions of authority and leadership and I hope that as many women as possible will come along to these free events to find out more about what being a councillor is all about.”
