Environment grant funding still available from Swale Borough Council

Two weeks left to apply for an environment grant from Swale Borough Council

There’s still time for local groups and organisations to apply for funding from Swale Borough Council.

The council’s environment grant scheme makes money available every year to support initiatives that help protect the local environment.

Cllr Tim Valentine, cabinet member for the environment at the council, said:

“This year we’ve made £15,000 available to help local groups and organisations install recycling bins, plant wildflowers and carry out beach cleans.

“We’ve allocated more than £12,000 towards 13 environmental projects around the borough, and we still have more than £2,000 to allocate.

“We’ve contributed £1,550 to Hornhill Activity Centre for new recycling bins and environmentally friendly lighting, £727.75 to Eastchurch Parish Council to buy environmentally friendly street furniture, and £400 to the Selling Bee Friendly Project to help grow wild meadows that encourage local flower and fauna to thrive.

“We also contributed £2,000 to Curly’s Legacy, a small farm in Leysdown designed for children with disabilities and wheelchair users for a composting toilet, recycling skips and polytunnel.

“We’re pleased to help organisations and groups provide environmentally friendly options for the community such as wildflowers to encourage bees, butterflies and insects back to our green spaces, and street furniture that is made from sustainable or recycled material.

“It’s important for us to protect our delicate eco system and we commend those organisations that are dedicating themselves to providing environmentally safe options for the local community.

“We encourage anybody wanting support for their environmentally friendly projects to apply for a grant before the end of the month (28 Feb).”
