Electric Vehicle – Council goes electric for cleaner air

CLEANER AIR – Canterbury City Council has taken delivery of its first-ever electric vehicle, with more planned for its fleet in the near future.

The van, a Nissan e-NV200, is 100% electric and has been introduced to help reduce the impact of council-owned vehicles on air quality for cleaner air

It produces no emissions and has a 40kWh battery which gives a range of up to 187 miles on a single charge, meaning it’s not only better for the environment, but will also help save the council money in long-term fuel and maintenance costs.

The van will be used by the council’s parking facilities team to travel between the parking sites to maintain equipment and respond to any problems.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Robert Thomas, said: “The purchase of our first electric vehicle represents another small but very important step in our work to reduce our carbon footprint and improve air quality across our district.

“We’re continuing to look at options for rolling out more electric vehicles across our small fleet as we work towards reducing our carbon footprint in line with our action plan.”
