Furley Page Foundation encourages community to support new Pilgrims Hospices fundraiser

People are being urged to support Pilgrims Hospices by taking part in a new fundraising event sponsored by the Furley Page Foundation, a registered charity created to manage all social responsibility programmes of leading Kent law firm Furley Page.

A Night to Shine will bring together people of all ages across east Kent in walking courses of up to 10km while dressed in event-branded tee shirts and carrying paper lanterns which can be decorated in advance and carried in memory of a loved one.

A Night to Shine replaces the hugely-successful Light up the City walking and running event held each autumn in Canterbury, which was also sponsored by Furley Page.

Events will take place simultaneously in Ashford, Broadstairs and Canterbury on Saturday, September 30 at 7pm (registration from 6pm). Members of the Furley Page team will take part in the 5km course in Canterbury and hand out glow-in-the-dark accessories in Canterbury while wearing luminous outfits.

A Night to Shine will take place at:

CanterburyCanterbury Christchurch University, Pilgrims Way, CT1 1PH – 5km

Ashford: Julie Rose Stadium, Willesborough Road, TN24 9QX – 5km and 10km

Broadstairs: The Pavilion, Harbour Street, CT10 1EU – 5km and 8km

Furley Page Foundation Trustee Aaron Spencer, a Partner at Furley Page, said: “Having sponsored Pilgrims Hospices events in the past, we’re honoured to be a part of A Night to Shine and help raise funds for such a worthy cause.

“Lighting up the streets of Canterbury, Ashford and Broadstairs is a fantastic way of bringing the community together to support a charity which relies so heavily on public donations, while also giving people the chance to remember a loved one in a fitting way.”

Pilgrims Hospices Community Fundraising Manager Deborah Kellond said: “Furley Page continues to be a fantastic supporter of our work and their sponsorship of A Night to Shine helps to cover the cost of organising the event, meaning more money raised on the night goes towards caring for our patients and their families.

“In each town, there will be live music and a real party atmosphere among participants, who will walk into the night amid a sea of lantern light. Our walking events have raised an incredible £475,000 over the years, covering a total of over 100,000 miles in the process.”

Participants are also welcome to bring head torches, light sabres and fairy lights, while flashing merchandise will also be available to buy on the night.

The walks in Canterbury, Ashford and Broadstairs start at 7pm (registration from 6pm) and cost £15 adults and £10 for children in advance, or £20 for adults and £15 for children on the night. Walkers are also encouraged to seek sponsorship, with those who raise over £250 being entered into a prize draw to win an iPad, as well as having their entry fee reimbursed.
