Shining stars from East Kent Mencap dazzled the crowd in the East Kent Mencap annual show. The local charity stages a show every Christmas to showcase the amazing talent of the people with a learning disability who attend weekly sessions at their Resource Centres in Thanet.

Titled ‘Junk to Funk’, the show combined fashion, film and funky music to represent each of the sessions run by the Resource Centres in Margate and Ramsgate throughout the year. From reminiscence to upcycling, this eco-friendly extravaganza illustrated the work they have carried out within their local community. The show is always popular and this year was no exception with tickets selling out. The Mayor of Margate, Julie Dellar and the Mayor of Ramsgate, Trevor Shonk had front row seats, alongside Councillors, Janet Falcon and Hunter Stummer-Schmertzing.

The show took place at St Paul’s Church, which was kindly offered for the charity to use for free. On the day, volunteers from Princes Trust and Pfizer helped to sell raffle tickets and refreshments. The upcycling group also exhibited their work on the day for donations. All funds raised from the event will be allocated to East Kent Mencap’s resource services.
