On Set with Deal’s David Easter and co

David Easter

There’s a few perks to this reporting/writing gig, occasionally I’ll be gifted a free pass to a show or festival, occasionally I’ll receive a flattering email (it’s happened twice in five years- that warrants occasionally in my book) and I’ve even had an email offer to make me a cheesecake, sadly it hasn’t arrived of yet but I’m hopeful. A recent perk of the job was the chance to visit a film set.

After interviewing Juliette and Kevin Short the couple behind Ettecon for Deal’s CommunityAd magazine I was invited along to the set of The Miner’s Son. A feature film which is being shot locally and explores the area’s mining past, from my understanding of the film it’s set to deliver social realism that packs a punch as well as Rock N Roll. Independent filmmaking involves herculean efforts and steely determination, not to mention a favour or two. Kevin and Juliette have been astounded by the local community and their willingness to make the film the best it can be, local businesses have been key as well as individuals who given up time to volunteer their services. The film’s chance of future success has been given a massive helping hand due to the incredible cast it’s managed to assemble, the shiny jewel in the casts crown being David Easter.

David Easter will be a name and face most tele-savvy readers will recognise as he’s kind of Soap royalty having played Pete Callan in Family Affairs, Gil Keane in Emmerdale, Frank Fisher in The Bill and most notably Mac Nightingale in Hollyoaks. On set David not looking like dapper Mac Nightingale but a furious MINER called Will who’s ready to strike against a certain a ‘Maggie’, I won’t repeat his exact dialogue but it’s fair to say its rather savoury language. David’s performance is impassioned, stirring and completely believable as is the set of Stonar Café, it feels for all the world as if we’re in a miner’s club in the 80’s, the atmosphere tense and anger brewing. Then Juliette yells cut and its all fun and jokes.

David who lives in Deal was kind enough to give CommunityAd an interview which will feature in the next issue of the Deal magazine. Until then you can keep up to date with all things The Miners Son at the below links;

Additionally there is a still a chance to volunteer yourself to the film, as Juliette and Co are still after extras for some scenes and welcome any helping hand, so if that’s up your street why not drop them an email at- [email protected].
