Counting down to the Medway Mile

We look forward to welcoming those of you who have signed up to the 2019 Medway Mile. If you haven’t signed up, don’t worry – you can still come along and get involved in all of the below activities.

Whether you’re an elite runner or coming along as a family for the children’s races and mass mile, we also aim to inspire you and your family to stay active throughout the summer with a variety of activities available for you to take part in throughout the event. Read below to give you a taste of what to expect.

Work your way around the activities where you will be entered into a prize draw with lots of prizes up for grabs, including family tickets to The Central Theatre Christmas pantomime, Eastgate House, Upnor Castle, Odeon Cinema, Hollywood Bowl, Diggerland, The Strand and our Sports Centres.

And if you enjoy being active, Medway Sport have a variety of activities for the whole family throughout the summer taking place at all our centres including mermaiding, football, Cricket Festival, sports camps, swimming crash courses, inflatable fun and the HSBC UK I National Circuit Championships on Sunday, 21 July.

 

Athletics

Test your skills in this sprint, hurdles and speed bounce challenge on our pop-up running track with South West Athletics Academy. Various running clubs will be available at the event to chat to such as parkrun and junior parkrun.


 

Save a life

Learn some vital life-saving skills and techniques with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS). Live demonstrations and hands-on sessions in CPR, first aid and water rescue.  Don’t forget to high-5 their mascot Perry.

 

 


A Better Medway Public Health Zone

Join the A Better Medway team to receive your health check and take part in fun activities such as cooking, water melon pizzas, mocktails and parent and child assault course.

 

 


 

Cricket

Feeling the love for Cricket? Drop by for some Street Cricket, a faster version of the game with no dress code.  Representatives from Kent Cricket will be available on the night and if you like what you see, don’t forget to join our Family Fun Cricket Festival on Tuesday, 23 July at Strood Soccer Centre, Watling Street.


Hockey skills

Play hockey in a fun environment whilst testing your dribbling and flicks in England Hockey’s skill panna cage with advice from Holcombe Hockey Club.

Rugby tackles

Try-out the tackle inflatable with Medway Rugby Club


Familiar Family Favourites

With climbing being the new Olympic sport for Tokyo 2020, come and give it a go on our climbing wall.

Plus giant inflatable slides, arts and crafts, and face painting.

Bring a picnic or enjoy the refreshments we have available to purchase on the night.

 


Fitness Zone

Take on our Gorilla Bar or Kettle Bell Hang Challenge and let our sports officers take you through a functional fitness assessment and you could win a gym & swim pass/membership.

 

Also joining us in the zone are Medway Towns Rowing Club organising rowing challenges and races.

 


Football

Inspired by the Lionesses? Then head to our Women’s World Cup festival zone for dribbling, shooting, table football and other footie challenges with Anchorians Football Club, Gillingham FC and Kent FA. For more information on football coaching, games and pay-and-play throughout the summer, please visit Strood Soccer Centre or email us.


On your bike

Test your tricks on our PumpTrack with Wigmore Cycling or try out the balance bike skills and assault course for the under 5s. Bikes and helmets provided.

Static bike racing

Adults and children from 5 years old can try out rollers over 250m or 500m sprints.

Plus the thrilling Fusion Extreme BMX and stunt show.


Korfball

Get involved in this great mixed sport and test your sharp shooting skills with Tornadoes Korfball Club and Academy.

Dodgeball

Join a team for a friendly game of Dodgeball, throwing balls to hit opponents while avoiding being hit yourselves with Soar Trampolining.

Bowling

Come and score a strike at our pop-up bowling alley from Hollywood Bowl.


Slacklining

The ultimate extreme balance sport that stems from tightrope walking. Put your balance skills to the test with the Slackline School.

Martial Arts

Demonstration and taster sessions with Black Belt Martial Arts, Gillingham

Dance and hula hoop

Get those hips moving with Dance2Enhance


Finishing with a bang!

The Medway Mile spectacular firework display will commence at 9.30pm.
