Cabinet councillors have praised a number of performance achievements made during the final quarter of 2018/9.

Among these was overall tenant satisfaction which showed 91% of residents are happy with the services they receive, well above the 75% target.

The Rough Sleeping Initiative, which has been in operation across Eastbourne and Hastings since October 2018, has so far relieved 53 people from rough sleeping and prevented 73 others from becoming homeless. Led by the councils’ housing departments working closely with partnership agencies, ongoing government funding for the scheme has been approved until March 2020.

The Story of Eastbourne exhibition and heritage hub has proved extremely popular with visitors. In its first seven weeks of opening, the exhibition in Terminus Road welcomed more than 3,500 visitors. The vast majority of feedback has been highly supportive of the venture with many people requesting a more permanent facility than its planned two-year run.

In addition, the number of people registering for Eastbourne and Lewes councils’ email alert service has rocketed, with more than 6,500 new sign-ups this quarter. This contributes to an annual total of 14,296 new subscribers, more than three times the target level of 4,000. Similarly, a huge increase has been seen in the number of sign-ups to the councils’ social media channels with 496 this quarter bringing the annual total to 2,438 – more than four times the target figure.

Councillor Colin Swansborough, Cabinet member for Core Support, Strategic Services and Special Projects, said: “We have achieved significant successes across our key priority areas this quarter, notably in the digital arena which is proving both an efficient way for residents to contact the council and for us to quickly send out timely information to a wide audience.

“I’m also delighted that so many people have already visited The Story of Eastbourne to learn about our town’s past and that the exhibition has been so well received.

“We will continue to closely monitor our performance to meet the high standards residents expect and ensure we continue to deliver excellent, good value-for-money services.”
