Council promotes creative sector growth

Lewes District Council’s new Co-operative Alliance is supporting the growth of creative industries across the district.

Cabinet councillors this week agreed to work with partnership organisations to support the development of new affordable, open and creative workspaces, such as artist studios, makerspaces, business incubators and co-working spaces.

Councillor James MacCleary, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Prosperity, said: “I’m proud that our district boasts a thriving creative sector.

“As with firms from all sectors, we want to ensure these businesses are getting all the support possible so that they continue to grow and contribute to our local economy.

“The council already provides a number of key business support services, including our successful LEAP programme, and is committed to working closely with key partners including Locate East Sussex, Business East Sussex and the Coast to Capital Growth Hub.”

He added: “We have been ambitious in accessing government funds to support local growth. We have been shortlisted for both the Future High Streets Fund and were recently informed that we will be given the opportunity to bid for the new Towns Fund. We are determined to boost our communities even as other funding is cut back.”
