Coram Beanstalk in need of volunteers to become reading helpers in the local area

Could you spare a few hours each week to help in a local school or pre-school supporting children to read?

Coram Beanstalk is a national reading charity that transforms children’s life chances by recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to work directly with children aged 3-11 who need extra support with reading. Volunteers support children who, for a variety of reasons, don’t feel confident around books and would benefit from weekly sessions outside of the classroom with someone who can help ‘open the door’ to reading.

Each reading helper (volunteer) supports three children aged 3-13 through twice-weekly sessions and over one academic year to read well – not just through recognising the words but through the enjoyment of sharing books together, chatting about them and developing deeper understanding of the content. All volunteers receive professional training, resources and ongoing support from Coram Beanstalk.

The vision of the charity is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to become confident and able readers by encouraging a love of books from an early age.

If you would like to become a reading helper please visit the website at www.corambeanstalk.org.uk or call Coram Beanstalk on 020 7729 4087.
