Community event closes initial hub consultation

Local organisations including Your Leisure, the new operators of Aylesham Welfare Leisure Centre, Bechange and Aylesham4Aylesham have taken part in a community event to promote some of the services on offer in the village.

Fifteen groups took part in the Living Noticeboard event at St Peter’s Church Hall on Saturday 27 April, which was organised by the team behind the Aylesham Hub project.

Throughout the afternoon residents called in to chat with groups including Knit and Natter, Tiny Talk, Hawkinge Hurricanes and the local Heritage Group. They also spoke with Aylesham Hub volunteers about plans for new social facilities in the village.

Secretary Jon Flaig said: “Several local organisations had told us they find it hard to promote what they do or attract new volunteers, while some residents have said they aren’t sure what’s on offer in the village.

“The aim of the event was to see how we could work together to help promote each other.”

The Living Noticeboard marked the end of the first phase of Aylesham Hub’s local consultation. A public meeting will take place on Saturday 18 May at which the Hub team will discuss the results of their initial survey, share illustrative plans for the building based on suggestions received so far, and explain the next steps in the project.

The meeting takes place at The Old School Hall, Aylesham and District Community Workshop Trust on Ackholt Road. The first talk is at 1.30pm and the second is at 2.30pm. Places can be booked via the Hub website www.ayleshamhub.org.uk or by emailing [email protected]
