Community on board with local skatepark redevelopment

A fundraiser has been created to help the efforts made by Overton Parish Council and young members of Overton’s special community, seeking a grant to replace the extremely
old and unsafe skatepark at Sapley Lane Playing Field.

The young skaters and BMXers collected over £600 from running a stall at the Christmas Market, even Overton legend and Strictly Come Dancing Star Mike Bushell showed his face to support the efforts of the young fundraisers but they are hoping the JustGiving page can propel their efforts in the right direction and raise the amount they desperately require.

The fundraiser is hoping to raise another £500 for the Overton Skatepark Redevelopment project and they hope you can make a donation; the page reads as follows:

“The younger members of Overton’s special community have been focusing their time and efforts to highlight the need for the Parish to make an investment in the community and redevelop the Overton Skatepark for all children and enthusiasts.

“The proactive youths have dedicated heaps of their time attending meetings and engaging with developers to draw up plans for the redevelopment, all the project needs now is for Overton Community to show their support. We need as many donations as possible to show the backing from the community. Let’s make this village better for everyone.”

The benefits of local amenities such as skateparks are extensive, from providing priceless social opportunities to developing skills, the redevelopment of Overton’s skatepark will only be a positive for Overton and its community members.

“Well designed and managed skate facilities will become a hub for community life.

A skate facility can be a catalyst for healthy community life in which young and old socialise, have fun, develop new skills, make new friends, hang out and much more.”
