City Photography Competition winning shots reveal Chelmsford’s urban and natural beauty

The cameras of Chelmsford have been busy this summer! On 31 August, Chelmsford City Council’s City Photography Competition 2019 closed after three months of entries celebrating the city and surrounding villages.

Now in its fifth year, the competition invites amateur photographers from all over the area to enter their photographs. The winning entries were chosen by a panel of judges including the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Bob Massey, photographer John Byer and representatives from Essex Chronicle, Meadows Shopping Centre, Blue Sky Printing, Camera World and One Chelmsford.

Judges whittled the 319 entries down to 25 photographs and invited the owners of these to a special awards evening on Monday 7 October at Meadows Shopping Centre.

An expert critique of all the top 25 photographs was provided by John Byers and the awards and prizes were presented.

James di Cicco’s photo, entitled ‘Filming Light Trails’ won for the Creative Chelmsford category, while Lee Woodcraft came top in the Natural Chelmsford category with a snap entitled ‘That Tree’.

Judges also selected ‘Skating’ by Roxana Voium from a selection of entries in the Urban Chelmsford category and a photo entitled ‘Hylands Whisper’ by Kelcie John-Lewis won the Chelmsford in Portrait category. For the under-16’s category, judges were extremely impressed with the quality of submissions, but the winner, Sam Crouch topped them all with their photo entitled ‘Sunset’.

From all these brilliant photographers, James di Cicco was selected as the overall winner and Roxana Voium was the overall runner up.

The photographs will be on display at a special exhibition in the Meadows Shopping Centre until Friday 18 October.
