Christmas Fayre – Holy Cross Church, Bearsted

Saturday 7^th December sees the third annual Christmas Fayre at Holy Cross Church, in support of its Raise the Roof campaign.

Why ‘Raise the Roof’?

Recent routine inspections have shown us that that the church roof is in need of repair. Although the repairs are not yet urgent, we are aware that the work will need to be done soon, and the cost is likely to run to in excess of £400,000. So, in Autumn 2017, the parochial church council (PCC) took the decision to begin amassing funds for this very expensive project.

From the outset, members of the Raise the Roof committee were agreed that we did want to involve as many people from the wider community as possible. The 2017 Christmas Fayre was our first event and since then we have organised concerts, quiz evenings, a murder mystery evening, a flower festival and – of course – a second Christmas Fayre, raising in excess of £15,000 in the process.

This autumn, we invited small groups of people to come together and knit, sew or otherwise create useful items and small gifts to sell at the fayre. We’re also asking people to donate jams, chutneys and other preserves for our produce stall. In addition, there will be stalls selling jewellery, bric-a-brac, cakes and biscuits, refreshments, books and toys, a tombola stall, prize raffle and the children’s activity corner. We have also invited a VIP from the North Pole to join in the fun.

You can find us at ME14 4EE; there is parking available in the car park at the end of Church Lane. The Fayre is open from 10am to 2pm; entrance costs £1 for adults and is free for children.
