Children recreate photography history

Local children and visitors to Thanet have learnt how to recreate photography history, thanks to a partnership between Discover Thanet’s Coast and The Dark Room project at Resort Studios, Cliftonville.

As part of a series of free hands-on workshops over half term, children and their families learnt about ‘cyanotype printing’ and then created their own unique pieces of art.  Cyanotype printing is a process which uses UV light and natural materials, like lace, shells, feathers and leaves to make beautiful blue and white printed photographs, without the need for a camera.

The photography workshops are just one of several events to have taken place this year as part of Thanet District Council’s Coastal Community Funded project, Discover Thanet’s Coast.

The project encourages visitors to explore more widely the special links between coast, culture and history around the area, through beach and town activities.

Discover Thanet’s Coast also organised a range of events over the summer, including yoga on the beach, birdwatching, photography exhibitions, surf lessons, and many more.

‘Forgotten Wrecks of the First World War’

A travelling exhibition which tells the story of the First World War at sea, including the 700 wartime wrecks along our coastline and the many associated tales of bravery and sacrifice.  It is on display at The Thanet Visitor Information Centre at Droit House in Margate from 11^th-16^th November (Open Tues-Sat). Discover Thanet’s Unique Winter Bird Species
