Children get their secondary school offer

Families across Medway will start receiving news of the secondary school their child has been offered for September 2020 today, national offer day.

Medway Council has invested £3million to provide additional secondary school places to meet the increased demand in September 2020. The investment has helped ensure that as many children as possible have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools. This has contributed to more than 95 per cent of Medway children being offered a place at one of their preferred secondary schools.

Of the 3,480 Medway children offered places, more than 94 per cent have been awarded either their first, second or third preference. Every Medway child whose parent applied on time has secured a school place.

The school admissions process for Medway is a huge task and involves the council’s School Admissions and Transport team processing secondary school applications for 4,245 children, including 765 children from outside the Medway area.

This year, more than 98 per cent of families used the council’s online application process to submit their preferences.

Cllr Martin Potter, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Education and Schools, said: “I am very pleased that more than 95 per cent of children have been allocated a place at one of their preferred secondary schools. We have a fantastic range of schools here in Medway and I would like to wish everyone finding out their allocated place the best of luck for the future.”

Cllr Josie Iles, Medway Council’s Lead Member for Children’s Services, said: “This is a very exciting time for children and their families, and I am pleased that the vast majority of children have been allocated a place at one of their preferred schools. I wish the children all the best as they take their next step into secondary school.

“I would also like to thank our admissions team for all their hard work. It is a testament to them that 91 per cent of children have been allocated a place at their first or second choice school.”
