Chelmsford City Council launches parking scheme outside school

A new and exciting character called 3PR has been launched Abacus Primary School, Tresco Way, Wickford.

3PR, who represents the three parking rules of Care, Consideration and Caution, has been designed and created by the South Essex Parking Partnership (SEPP) to help deliver a positive message about school parking and provides advice and guidance to children, parents and the residents on safe and considerate parking practices.

Any pupil who enters the zone by foot, cycle or scooter gets a 3PR token for the class token box and each month the class with the most tokens is awarded a cup and at the end of each school year, one class will become the 3PR Parking Champions.

Launch - school children with Councillor Harrison

Heidi Blakeley, Headteacher at Abacus Primary School said: “We are really excited here at Abacus to be taking part in the 3PR parking project with Chelmsford City Council. Parking by schools is always an issue and we are always trying to think of ways to improve it and keep our children safe during drop off and pick up times. Our pupil council and parent forum have really enjoyed being part of this project.”

Wickford Independents Councillor David Harrison, for Basildon Council said: “It was great to see the parents and children at Abacus Primary School participating in the 3PR initiative. Lots of 3PR Tokens were given out to children who walked, scooted or cycled into the 3PR zone which eased congestion along Tresco Way.”

Alan Ball, Basildon SEPP Joint Committee Member said: “I am pleased to see that Abacus Primary School have launched 3PR in their school. We hope that this initiative will improve some of the parking problems outside of the school.”
