Celebrating excellence at the Essex Teaching Awards

The seventh annual Essex Teaching Awards have taken place, giving us another opportunity to highlight and celebrate the outstanding teaching and support staff working in primary, secondary, special and early years settings across Essex.

We’re committed to ensuring every child gets the best start in life and this begins at school, where teachers and school staff can help to shape the path young people may eventually end up taking.

This year’s winners, who were nominated by their peers, parents and carers, can be found below and represent the highest calibre of teaching and support staff the county has to offer.

• New Teacher of the Year – Luella Murray, The Stanway School
• Teacher of the Year (Primary) – Rodica Freeman, Moulsham Infant School
• Teacher of the Year (Secondary) – Melissa Marable, Ormiston Rivers Academy
• Teacher of the Year (Special School) – Patrick Creedon, Endeavour Co-operative Academy
• Headteacher of the Year (Primary or Special School) – Michael Wade, Quilters Infant School and Quilters Junior School
• Headteacher of the Year (Secondary School) – Trevor Lawn, Alec Hunter Academy
• Childminder of the Year – Rachel Dench, Little Pops Childminding
• Early Years and Foundation Stage Practitioner of the Year – Maria Johnson, Mildmay Infant and Nursery School
• Teaching Assistant of the Year – Carron Thompson, Greensward Academy
• Team of the Year – The Performing Arts Department, Ormiston Rivers Academy
• Non-Teaching Staff Member of the Year – Jenny Playford, Kings Road Primary School
• Student Choice Award – Laura Petch, The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College
• Lifetime Achievement – Jenny McCutcheon, Fairhouse Primary School
