Celebrate Walderslade at a community fun day

Residents are invited to celebrate Walderslade at a free family fun day.  

Medway Council organised four new local festival days in 2018 to mark 20 years since the founding of Medway and to celebrate community identities. The Focus On events are designed for local people and highlight all that is great about each area.

Focus On Walderslade will take place at Hook Meadow Recreation Ground, Walderslade, on Sunday, 30 June, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. 

It will be a jam-packed family day out with activities for all ages to enjoy including BMX, skateboarding, in-line skating and scooter demonstrations and competitions led by Team Extreme. There will be an Action Wheels ‘have-a-go’ area with balance bikes and mountain bikes for everyone to try as well as a climbing wall. 

Make sure you have your picture taken with the Maiden of Flowers and her summer Lion – they’ll be walking around the festival greeting visitors.

The Big Top Hullaballoo is back by popular demand – test your tightrope skills at the circus workshops with Dizzy O’Dare. St Philip and St James’ Church will host community hymn singing and more in the Big Top from 10.30am to 11.20am. 

There will also be a bandstand with live music and performances. 

Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “Our Focus on Festivals provide free, fun days out for families to celebrate their local communities. There will be plenty of activities for residents of all ages to enjoy – don’t miss out.”

Two more Focus On Festivals will be held this year. Focus On Strood takes place at Broomhill Park, Strood, on Saturday, 14 September, from 10.30am to 4.30pm and Focus on Hoo will be held at Pottery Road Recreation Ground on Saturday, 21 September, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
