Can we all help Save Hartsdown?!

The Save Hartsdown Facebook page was created earlier this week to raise awareness and keep everyone up to date on Thanet District Councils proposed sale of Land at Hartsdown Park.

Below is a description and statement from Save Hartsdown….

On August 2018, Thanet District Council took the decision to sell a large piece of land situated at Hartsdown Park, Margate, Kent.

The site is of enormous social and community importance, being used by not only a world class Taekwondo school, but also a very successful business in the area that will be directly affected by the proposed sale of this land, jeopardising jobs and community cohesion.

The aim of the Save Hartsdown Facebook page is to highlight what is being done to protect this invaluable area from being sold. The land is believed to be fully protected under legal covenant which was put in place as long ago as 1835, when the then land owners, the Hatfeild family, owed some 850 acres of land including the entire Hartsdown, Tivoli and Salmestone estates. The land effectively belongs to the people of Margate in perpetuity for their enjoyment, not as some saleable asset for the council to make a quick profit.

We believe that Thanet District Council are not acting in the best interests of the community or local businesses, in fact, by proposing this sale for development, they are actively against the interests of the people of Margate.

This gives you an idea of the scale of the sell off.
If allowed to go ahead, all of the land outlined in red will be lost to housing.
Community groups will be sent packing, businesses will be forced to either close or relocate…. WHY ?
