Calling all young entrepreneurs

Young entrepreneurs aged 13 to 19 from across the district are being offered a free stall at the Herne Bay produce and craft market on Sunday 10 December.

The city council, which runs the market in Wimereux Square, is working with local business woman Nikki Casey to give young makers and performers the chance to come along and sell a product or service and take the next step from turning their passion or hobby into a business.

The opportunity is open to anyone with a skill or talent, from cake making, craft making, painting or drawing, through to singing or dancing on stage in front of the crowd, and everything else in between.

Stalls are free and the young person must be accompanied by an adult on the day. A full support programme and free mentoring sessions before the event will also be provided.

Chairman of the council’s Regeneration and Property Committee, Cllr Ben Fitter-Harding, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to showcase their talent, get some help with running a business and test their ideas. And it’s the Christmas edition of the market, so it should be particularly busy that day.

“We would love to welcome the next generation of entrepreneurs along to the market and help them get their business dream off to a great start.”

The Herne Bay produce and craft market, set up as part of the council’s Buy in the Bay initiative, takes place on the second Sunday of every month at Wimereux Square in William Street between 10am and 2pm. The next market is on 12 November. For more details, visit the Buy in the Bay website.
