Birds of Prey displays resume at Groombridge Place on 19 May 2021

On 19 May 2021 the UK Owl and Raptor Centre will be resuming their outdoor displays at Groombridge Place near Tunbridge Wells in Kent.    Their popular displays which take place twice a day will include many beautiful birds of prey along with interesting commentary for the handlers.

The displays are included with admission to Groombridge Place where visitors can also enjoy the formal gardens, which overlook the moated manor house, and all the attractions in the Enchanted Forest including the wooden fort, slide, huge wooden boat and rope bridges at Crusoe’s World and the 750 yard raised Board Walk with zip wire and rope swings.   Once you reach the top of the forest you can enjoy swinging through the trees on the Giant Tree Swings and Family Nest Swings.

The birds of prey displays are a chance to see some incredible birds of prey up close including Vespa the Steppe Eagle which is the UK Owl and Raptor Centre’s largest bird with a wingspan of 6ft.  The Steppe Eagle is endangered in the wild.

Audiences can also see two Black Kites, Foxtrot & Sierra. This acrobatic duo love to show off their agility by catching and eating their prey whilst flying.

Watch Sky the Barn Owl as she flies silently over Groombridge.  Barn Owls are native to this country and are well known for their beautiful heart shaped faces.  Barn owls can often be seen hunting on open fields as they listen out for the sounds of their prey under long grass.

Daniel Clark, UK Owl and Raptor Centre said, “After what will be 5 months of not being able to conduct our flying demonstrations, we are so excited to welcome guests back from the 19th May at Groombridge Place to watch our birds as they show off their flying abilities right over the top of the heads of the audiences.”

Groombridge Place will be open from 10am until the gates close at 5pm.  The attraction will be open daily in school holidays and on bank holidays and at other times from Wednesday to Sunday (closed on Monday and Tuesday).

Directions to Groombridge Place:

Groombridge Place is located in the village of Groombridge, 4 miles south west of Tunbridge Wells on the B2110, which is just off the A264 Tunbridge Wells/ East Grinstead road – on the Kent and East Sussex county border.

By Road: From the M25: Exit at Junction 5 and head south on the A21. After 10 miles, exit at A26 signed Tunbridge Wells: then take A264 to East Grinstead and follow the signs to Groombridge village and Groombridge Place.

By Rail: London Charing Cross to Tunbridge Wells, then bus or taxi to Groombridge. Or take the Spa Valley Railway steam train from Tunbridge Wells West Station with a 10-minute walk the other end. Call 01892 537715 for timetables or visit www.spavalleyrailway.co.uk

Please Note: The Spa Valley Railway does not run every day but a limited service will resume on 22 May 2021.
