What is BDA Sign Language Week?

To coincide with the anniversary of BSL Recognition Day (18 March) the British Deaf Association (BDA) holds a nationwide Sign Language Week, celebrating our beautiful and unique language, British Sign Language (BSL).

Sign Language Week is designed to raise awareness of the United Kingdom’s Deaf community and provide a platform for Deaf people to proudly promote their language and culture.

We are pleased to announce a new website dedicated to our annual Sign Language Week- www.signlanguageweek.org.uk

The site contains full details of what we would like you to do to help us make this week successful

British Sign Language is Britain’s fourth indigenous language

Let’s celebrate Sign Language Week!

We are asking you to- DREAM BIG! Please let your friends and family know and encourage them all to join in. Take your place on the wall of fame and help to convince Deaf children, young people, parents and hearing public everywhere that deaf people can do anything they want “WE CAN, YOU CAN”

WHY NOT JOIN IN!

Deaf Adults

We are calling on Deaf adults to tell us about their jobs in order to inspire and motivate other Deaf adults and young people. The message is: “WE CAN, YOU CAN!”

Young Deaf

We want young Deaf individuals to tell us about their dream job. This will hopefully inspire families and friends to support them in their goal for a brighter future!

Supporters

Whether they’re your parents, children, friends or colleagues, we want all of you to tell us about the amazing careers or the big dreams of Deaf people that you know!
You can also be part of Sign Language Week via Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag:
