Our £1.5 million discretionary grant scheme to support businesses impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis will close at the end of this week.

We are inviting eligible businesses to make their application for a share of this fund as soon as they can.

Grants between £2,000 and £10,000 and £25,000 (in exceptional circumstances) are available to support businesses will ongoing fixed premises or business related property costs such as rental costs.

Which businesses are eligible?

To be eligible for this discretionary scheme, businesses must have:

  • relatively high ongoing fixed premises or business related property costs
  • suffered a significant fall in income due to the COVID-19 crisis
  • been trading on or before 11 March 2020

occupied property, or part of a property, with a rateable value or annual rent below £51,000*

 

Note: *Priority will be given to applicants that have evidenced high fixed property costs (with a rateable value below £51,000) and a significant loss of turnover. However, businesses with a rateable value above this threshold will also be considered subject to the availability of funds.

We are looking to support all types of businesses, with priority being given to:

  • Nurseries and childcare facilities registered with OFSTED and in receipt of the business rates nursery discount for 2020/21
  • Medical therapeutic services for instance, chiropractors, physiotherapists and chiropodists with a business rates assessment
  • Indoor fitness and dance studios and sports facilities
  • Businesses supplying goods or services to the retail, hospitality, tourism, travel and leisure sectors

Regular market traders, bed and breakfasts, charities and businesses in shared office spaces should also apply if they have not done so already.

Which businesses are ineligible?

This scheme is not open to the businesses who have already made a claim against previous government grant schemes.

Businesses based at home (with the exception of bed and breakfasts) are also excluded from this scheme.

Businesses should visit www.braintree.gov.uk/coronavirus to find out more about the scheme, criteria and application process.
