Further additions to the one-way gyratory system around the Manor Street regeneration site

Fairfield Road and Victoria Street will be made one-way from Monday, 23 March.

Braintree District Council announces that Fairfield Road and Victoria Street will be made one-way to all traffic from Monday, 23 March.

Drivers will be required to travel one-way (southbound) down the upper end of Fairfield Road. After passing the Town Hall, drivers will then need to turn left and continue their journey eastbound along Victoria Street and out of the town towards Railway Street.

There will be no access into the upper end of Fairfield Road for drivers approaching from South Street which will make the right turn into Victoria Street compulsory.

Disabled drivers and bus drivers requiring access onto Market Place will need to approach that entrance from Manor Street.

The enforcement of the one-way westbound along Manor Street introduced earlier this month will continue.

The hoardings, the extension of the public footpath into the road and the locations of the new temporary bus stops make the introduction of these single lanes essential.

Preliminary work is already under way and construction work is due to start next month on the new development in Manor Street.

A Braintree District Council spokesman, at Braintree District Council, said: “We want to make sure that pedestrians and workers working near the roads are safe which is why restricting the traffic to one lane is essential. We would like to thank drivers for their support.”

This one-way system will be in place for the duration of the build project which is expected to be complete late autumn 2021.
