The site, off Thundersland Road, now features a range of exciting and imaginative new play equipment for children of all ages, including items that are accessible for children with disabilities.

Pupils from Herne Bay Infants and Junior Schools have been involved in the project, helping to choose the equipment and design of the play area. Just before the end of term, they were given a sneak preview of how the work was taking shape.

The council chose HAGS-SMP as the contractor for the project and part of the funding came from developers as a result of granted planning applications.

Chairman of the council’s Community Committee, Cllr Neil Baker, said: “It’s great to have completed another play area revamp and I’m sure there are lots of happy children enjoying the new equipment in the summer holidays. Burton Down has always been one of our most popular sites.

“We’d like to particularly thank the pupils from Herne Bay Infants and Junior Schools for all their help with the design and selection of equipment.”

The council’s next play area projects are brand new equipment at Kingsmead field in Canterbury in late autumn and a refurbishment of Chestfield play area in Whitstable in 2018.
