Join the Big Wild Weekend

On the 16th and 17th June, the Wildlife Trust are running over 100 wild events all around the UK to help you discover wildlife and wild places on your doorstep. Join your Wildlife Trust as they search for bugs, listen to birdsong, identify wildflowers, throw wild parties, camp out in the wild, dance to music, explore hidden jungles – everyone is welcome!

New research shows that 30 Days Wild is unique in improving people’s perception of beauty in nature, and that noticing natural beauty makes people happier and want to care for it.

Dr Miles Richardson, Director of Psychology, University of Derby* explains:
“Over the past three years we’ve repeatedly found that taking part in 30 Days Wild improves health, happiness, nature connection and conservation behaviours. Now we’ve discovered that engagement with the beauty of nature is part of that story.

“Tuning-in to the everyday beauty of nature becomes part of a journey which connects us more deeply to the natural world. As people’s appreciation of natural beauty increases, so does their happiness.  We respond to beauty – it restores us and balances our emotions. This, in turn, encourages people to do more to help wildlife and take action for nature.”

Who are The Wildlife Trusts?

No matter where you are in the UK, your Wildlife Trust is protecting and standing up for wildlife and wild places in your area. They connect local people to nature on their doorsteps; restore diverse wild places and look after thousands of nature reserves for future generations; and inspire people to take action for wildlife.

More than 800,000 members and 40,000 volunteers work together with their Wildlife Trust to make their local area wilder and make nature part of life, for everyone.

“We believe that everyone can make a positive difference to their local environment and that by working together we can achieve nature’s recovery on land and at sea.”
