A £20,000 boost for Portchester Bowling Club

People in and around the Portchester area will soon be bowled over by improvements to a local community landmark – the Portchester Bowling Club.

Hampshire County Council has awarded £20,000 to the club to help more residents access the recreational facility located between Fareham and Portsmouth.

The money was awarded by Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage, Councillor Sean Woodward, from the Recreation and Heritage Community Fund 2019/20. It will contribute towards an extension of the clubhouse.

Councillor Woodward said: “The Recreation and Heritage Community Fund was set up to help community organisations make the very best of their buildings and facilities so that people of all ages in the local area can benefit from more opportunities to get together.

“Work planned to extend the clubhouse will improve the interior, so that it can widen its community programme and expand its space for hire to local groups. Also, work will be done to ensure that people with limited or restricted mobility can fully access the facilities.

“The funding will help the Bowling Club make improvements to the efficiency of the building, reducing energy costs and ensuring the best possible return from taxpayers’ money.”

The Decision Day report is available online (appendix 4 sets out details of the grant awarded).
