The annual Discovery Festival returned to Chelmsford for its seventh year to support the United Nation’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD).

The Discovery Festival was held across two days at Chelmsford Museum on Monday 2 December and Tuesday 3 December, welcoming students from Columbus School and College, Our Lady Immaculate, Southview and Thriftwood schools to take part in several interactive activity sessions.

These sessions aimed to promote a positive image of people with disabilities, celebrating their achievements, increasing understanding of disability and promote inclusivity. Sessions included Simulation Specs from Support 4 Sight, boccia from Sport for Confidence, table cricket provided by Essex County Cricket and communication equipment and a sensory tent from Inclusive Communication Essex. Ace Music Therapy provided fun music sessions and the Mushroom Theatre Company provided an inclusive theatre workshop.

Event organiser, Ryan Mitchell from Chelmsford City Events said: “This year’s Discovery Festival focused on the younger generation and was a great opportunity for some of the younger residents of Chelmsford to come together and learn about those who live with disabilities.

“The event also highlights the great work that goes on across Chelmsford and between partner agencies to help those living with a disability and their families and carers. Thank you to all the schools for attending and to the organisations for their fantastic support in providing the activities that made the event possible.”
