Whitstable Rugby Club 1st XV survive relegation!

Whitstable Rugby Club 1st XV have confirmed they will remain in Kent Counties 3 with a bonus point win over Hastings and Bexhill in their final home game of the season.

The blues had struggled with their early season form and were languishing at the bottom of the league, but back to back wins over Hastings and Behxill and local rivals Faversham have seen them climb the table at the business end of the season.

Just four points separate the bottom five teams, so a convincing win was crucial. The bonus point win confirmed they will finish the league on at least 27 points, with Faversham and New Ash Green finishing on 25 and 26 respectively. Whitstable have a game in hand* where they will face ninth placed Gravesend 2s away, and a win could see Whitstable leapfrog Hastings to finish the league in 6th place.

At the time of writing, Whitstable 1st XV are also into the cup final where they will face Brockleians.

Whitstable’s second team, Gremlins, will also be looking to finish the season strongly as they hunt down third placed Dover 3rds. A huge 45 – 5 win over Deal and Betteshanger 3rds saw them climb to 4th in the league, with 2 games in hand*, 7 points off third placed Dover who have played all of their fixtures. Whitstable Gremlins’ final two games are against New Ash Green 2nds, and Folkestone 3rds, the bottom two teams in the league.
