Romney Marsh Shines in New Light

The aesthetic appeal of Romney Marsh has been known to inspire creativity and for local amateur photographers it is the perfect canvas to practice and hone their skills. That’s certainly the case for Jason!

‘Just for fun’ is the tag line found on the fantastic photos that Jason Vernon has been uploading to Facebook. CommunityAd were taken aback by the fact that it was only in October 2021 that the local of the last 15 years first picked up a camera.

What do you find aesthetically so charming about Romney Marsh and its surrounding areas? There’s something about it that stirs and inspires creativity, don’t you think?

“Romney Marsh is a beautiful place, I love its deep history and its untouched countryside, beaches and the wetlands, it’s a fantastic place to visit and it makes for great opportunities to capture some stunning shots. I have plans to do many photography days throughout the year in Romney Marsh and its surrounding areas to capture landscape, wildlife and astrophotography, the area really does offer great opportunities for photography and visitors alike.”

Jason lauds praise on the Folkestone Camera Club for reigniting his passion with photography but also in getting him involved with community life. These stunning light paintings that decorate this page would not have been possible without Chris Grinstead & Susan Pilcher who are seasoned photographers, familiar with the light painting.

“There was three of us taking pictures of the same shot yet all three pictures were different which only goes to show that you don’t really know what you’re going to get when doing this kind of photography until you look at the image and you will never be able to get that exact image again, it’s a one off.”

Jason leaves us with profound and quite inspiring message for readers: “We all have that something we’re looking for in our lives, I love adventure, hiking, travelling, camping, meeting interesting people yet there was always something else missing and I didn’t know what that one thing was. When I found photography I soon realised I was no longer looking for that something and for the first time in a long time I was satisfied with my life.”

Jason has since this chat launched a Facebook group designed for amateur photographers to share their shots and encourage each other, to join it search ‘Kents photography’ on Facebook or click here. You never know, you could be one of the talented photographers in our next Romney Marsh CommunityAd magazine showing how Romney Marsh shines.
