Georgia Train films in Rye

A series of 11 music videos shot in and around Icklesham and Rye are being released as part of local singer-songwriter Georgia Train’s upcoming album – Needles & Pinches.

The first video, which is also the title-track under the same name ‘Needles & Pinches’ was released on 27th August, with the rest of the videos being released once every two weeks.

CommunityAd were lucky enough to have an exclusive interview with Georgia and found out what about Rye provided the perfect backdrop and more about the upcoming album.

Georgia, originally from Yorkshire, studied at Music School in Brighton and recently moved to Icklesham where she set up a song writing house, which acts as a retreat for other artists to help write their songs and do some recording of their own.

Working with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Amanda Palmer, Ben Folds and Matt Lucas, and touring with Burt Bacharach, Georgia is a long-standing music professional, even co-writing the title track for the Kaiser Chief’s album ‘Stay Together’, peaking at Number 4.

Discussing the music videos and why Rye provided the perfect scenery, Georgia told us: “I live locally in Icklesham and Rye would have been the sort of location I would look for anyway, with glorious countryside uninterrupted by houses and buildings. We needed a lot of wide shots and with the open fields, it was really the landscaping that us brought us here.

“We filmed around Wickham Manor and Charles Palmer Vineyard in Winchelsea as well. I want to thank my two collaborators, my photo and filmmaker Scott Chalmers, and one of my long-time producers, Chris Stagg.”

Georgia explains that the inspiration behind the title track, Needles & Pinches, is to do with sensitive matters such as child loss, miscarriage and IVF.

“The needles I’m referring to is to do with medication, IVF, child loss, and the things women have to go through with miscarriages; with none of it really being spoken about but a lot of it being very painful and traumatic.

“I wouldn’t say the whole album is about that but that particular song, Needles & Pinches is a very heartfelt song about grief.

“It’s something I speak about now and advocate against anyone having to go through this experience alone. For me this album is all about connecting with those other women who I know exist, who are always going through pain and heartbreak and most of the time going through it alone.”

Georgia’s upcoming album will be released on the 5th November, with music videos featuring our very own Rye and Winchelsea will be released bi-weekly after the title track was released on 27th August.

Get to know Georgia and her three Desert Island Discs:

“This is a tough one. I’d say definitely a Talking Heads album, something that I can be uplifted by and be happy listening to.

“For the second probably an album I haven’t heard yet – a classic – maybe one of the old Bob Dylan albums.

“Lastly, a Kate Bush album, any Kate Bush album.”
