Faversham Pools Miles of Pounds Update

Since our last issue, Faversham Pools Miles of Pounds has somersaulted to an incredible £39,700, nearly reaching their halfway point and they beyond are ecstatic for all of the support as they finally re-open.

They told CommunityAd, “It’s phenomenal; we feel humbled by the scale of our community support. What has really made a difference to our team, too, are the wonderful messages of support we’ve received through lockdown.”

Their reopening is guided by the strict COVID-safe rules issued by Sport England and the government. They’ve been very fortunate to have received a reopening funding boost from the National Leisure Recovery Fund via Swale Borough Council, who have been key partners in keeping them going throughout the past year. Their team has been working hard to offer safe, socially-distanced swimming for as many people as possible; they urge their swimmers to follow their social media channels to stay updated on changes through the spring and summer.

Have you started working on any refurbishments yet?

Our focus has been 100% on reopening as safely as possible. Our next target is the reopening of our outdoor pool, on 29th May. Once we are back to full speed our attention will turn to the next stage of our refurbishment, which will be the changing village. It’s over twenty years old now and in need of a real overhaul which will be a long-term project as we want to make it more suitable for families, for swimmers with disabilities, and for older users.

Will you be keeping the fundraiser open?

Yes! We are well over half-way to our original target of £70,000. We’ve signed up to the Faversham & District Community Lottery, which is a great way for your readers to raise funds for the Pools while also giving themselves the chance to win a big cash prize every week. We are registered with Amazon Smile, so swimmers can choose to make a donation at no extra cost to themselves while shopping online. And we’re asking people to join our £30 annual Friends scheme (details on our website under ‘Support‘).

Faversham Swimming Pool are aware of how many people are keen to get back to swimming – for their physical and mental health, physio and for wellbeing. One thing people will notice when they return to the pool is their handsome new digital pace clock, generously sponsored by Kesson Physiotherapy. It’s larger and easier to read than the previous model so they hope many more swimmers will be able to challenge themselves as they build their fitness up again after this long break.

They now ask people to book a session before coming to the Pools. Go to www.favershampools.com/booking for more information and to book.
