Your Shout – Sandwich Cover Band

The days of belting out Wonderwall with your mates in beer gardens have returned and dare I say it choruses of ‘it’s coming home, it’s coming home, football’s coming home’. My word, don’t we just need a singalong, it’s scientifically proven that singing with others makes you happy and brings personal joy! If that’s the case then our community is blessed with four professional joy bringers going by the name Your Shout.

The cover band have been bringing covers of your favourite floorfillers and drunken singalongs to the Kentish community for the last fourteen years. The line up, however, changed last year and the new frontman Peter Ellis is keen to wet his whistle and perform to the people of Sandwich. An area that Martin, the band’s bass guitarist, describes as “a beautiful and diverse area with a wealth of charm and character, you couldn’t wish for more”. CommunityAd agree with that statement wholeheartedly and had the pleasure to chat some more with Martin about Your Shout and a summer of singing.

So, Martin, how long have Your Shout been covering the classics together?

We’ve been around for about 14 years now, however the current 4-piece line up with our new singer Peter Ellis is brand new as he only joined us late last year, so we’re really looking forward to getting out and playing our first gig!

There’s something joyous about a cover band; it must be a satisfying feeling when you rock up on stage and you see the audience singing back at you?

Yes indeed, it’s always great fun to play songs you like from artists you admire but it’s the audience reaction and enjoyment that makes a gig. It’s brilliant when the audience is up for it and singing and dancing along.

You must be extremely eager to get back on stage? How has this latest lockdown been for you as a group?

Absolutely, we can’t wait to get playing again. Lockdown has been awful for everyone, with the change of singer we are really looking forward to getting out there as it gives us all a new perspective and something to focus on.

Kent has got a rich music scene, hasn’t it? Lots of variety and a host of great venues, which ones stand out for you?

It really wouldn’t be fair to pick out one or two as there are so many fantastic venues, and so many great landlords, managers, staff and customers who all play a part in making the venues great.

If the band were stuck on a desert island and allowed only three singles what would they be?

That’s a really tricky one to answer as the four of us have very different musical tastes and backgrounds, which is why our sets are quite diverse! We can go from Blur and Blondie to Hendrix and AC-DC taking in Bowie and the Beatles on the way. There’s just too many great songs and artists to choose from.

Any plans to perform for readers this summer?

Yes, our diary is open and we’ve got bookings for this year and even some already for 2022! Our first live date is a fantastic Charity Event for Martha Trust – Martha’s Music on the Farm which takes place at Solley’s Farm on Sunday 27th June. It’s always a great day and one that we are delighted to support and be involved with again. More details about the day and the line-up of bands are available from Martha Trust.
