Pynch – From Thanet and London to your playlist

Born from the corners of Spencer Enock’s bedroom in Thanet, and moulded in the cultural hub of London, Pynch are a semi-local band that have been making waves in the ocean that is the entertainment industry and have even been dubbed “Pete Doherty’s protégés”.

CommunityAd were privileged enough to have a quick chat with lead singer Spencer about Pynch’s formation, their mixture of indie rock, keyboards and drums and their most recent release, The Whole World’s Going Crazy (For Love) which was released in October 2020, following their July release Somebody Else which has racked up over 635,000 plays on Spotify.

How did you guys meet, with some being from London and others Thanet?

“I’ve been writing and recording songs in my bedroom for nearly ten years but I met James Rees (guitar), Julianna Hopkins (drums) and Jimmy Folan (bass) when I moved to London a couple of years ago and we attended the Institute for Contemporary Music Performance.”

Although the past 18 months have been a period of cancellations and pushbacks, Pynch have a number of upcoming shows in August and September, such as Margate, London, Birmingham and Leeds just to name a few.

Can you talk to us about your latest release, The Whole World’s Going Crazy (For Love) and what was the message/inspiration behind it?

“I wrote it around January last year and just wanted to write about how strange the world is in a playful but bleak way; funny thing is it’s only seemed to get stranger since.”

Talking to us about some of the band’s most memorable moments to date, Spencer told us: “Supporting The Libertines at The Winter Gardens in December 2019 was a really special gig! We also drove over to Paris and played at Supersonic in February just before lockdown which was amazing.”

The band currently release music under the label Speedy Wunderground and have three tracks under their belt for our readers to listen to; Disco Lights (2019), Somebody Else (2020) and The Whole World’s Going Crazy (For Love).

Pynch are most certainly a band to keep an eye on as they try to navigate the complex music industry and go from strength to strength with every release.

You can find the band and their rave reviews on Twitter and Facebook @PynchBand and listen to all their releases via Spotify and are available to purchase via Bandcamp.
