In each of Morrisons’ stores they have a Community Champion who focuses on working with and supporting the local community.
In this edition we had a chat with Faversham’s own Community Champion, Jo Cracknell and Store Manager Lee Bowra, to find out more about how they support residents, charities and organisations in the local area.
Speaking to us about her role as a Community Champion, Jo told us: “It’s all about where Morrisons can help more in the community. For example, we talk to the food bank each week and set up a cage at the front of the store based around what they need, we are also currently doing one for the Community Wardrobe with back to school essentials.
“We also have a children’s library where people donate books and kids can help themselves, as well as Maths activity packs. Before COVID we had students touring the shop and teaching them things around the store, but this became a virtual tour when lockdown began. We also donate a lot to local projects, for example we have donated to the rugby club, Sudbury Housing, Faversham Umbrella, and even free meal deals to The Chemotherapy Project.”
Store Manager Lee added: “The role that Morrisons Stores play in all of our communities is really important to us, we like to play an active part in the community. We’ve spent time with the local Mayor and tried to understand some of the things that are important to her.
“One of the areas we want to look at as we come out of the pandemic is what we can do to support local youth – whether that’s upskilling or visiting local schools. We’d love to do a local piece project looking at how we encourage kids to see the world through slightly different eyes and bring to life some of the things that are important across the country and across the planet.”
The store is planning a litter pick with the Mayor and Town Council in September, as well as a fundraising event to open the museum for the Magna Carta in town.
