Kings Hill’s Nadesh wins Blue Peter Badge

Earning a Blue Peter Badge is something that anyone who lived through the limited after school television viewing options of the ’80s and ’90s will fondly remember. The wonderful writer and the subject of this article, Nadesh, was not around in those days but has earnt a Blue Peter Badge for her Lockdown Diaries.

Zeenara Najam and her family have called this beautiful area of the world home for more than half a decade now and as well as the beauty of the country lanes and greenery, it’s the friendly supportive and caring community that makes the place home. Zeenara’s daughter Nadesh is the aforementioned wonderful writer who has made the whole community proud including her mother: “It amazed me to read her diaries about lockdowns. She even tried to analyse and managed to make a comparison between all the lockdowns and tier levels, how they were different and how she felt during them including about Kent restrictions (as those were different over Christmas than some of the other parts of the UK)”.

CommunityAd had the pleasure of a chat with Nadesh, who told us how the diaries came about; “It was lockdown, I was bored. I love writing with drawings. I thought it would be a good idea to keep a record of what is happening around due to COVID-19”.

Fans of local success stories and creative writing will be pleased to know that Nadesh is still writing her diary, and still drawing to creatively illustrate the story being told. Nadesh advises readers to consider keeping a diary of their own saying “It is good to look back on what you did”. No promises you’ll get a Blue Peter badge for yours, though.

Well done to Nadesh. If you’d like to find out how to apply for a Blue Peter badge of your own, visit the BBC website.
