Giving Women a Voice with Hythe’s Ann Marina Longstaff

Giving Women a Voice is a collaboration of ten courageous real-life stories from survivors of abuse. I am one of the co-authors, and this is so surreal because I hadn’t even planned on becoming an author. The opportunity came along, totally out of the blue.

On social media, an author and domestic abuse survivor (Donna Anne Pace) was reaching out to women, with the offer of giving female abuse victims and survivors a voice. She was looking for ten women, of all ages, religions, cultural backgrounds and locations, to write their own story in their own words. To share how they were victims who found a path to freedom, and became survivors. Over 200 women globally were interested in writing a chapter. There could only be 10, and I feel so honoured to be part of this.

The book is emotional, empowering, heart-wrenching and inspiring to read. The individual chapters are written so openly and honestly, and I feel this is how Giving Women a Voice will help give a voice to victims and survivors everywhere, and raise genuine awareness of domestic abuse and child abuse.

The toughest part of writing my chapter was that it caused the abuse to feel recent again. I cried a lot, and kept wishing I had made better choices. Emotionally and mentally, I have many times fallen into the mindset of believing abuse is the only thing that defines who I am. Becoming an author is helping my healing and survival journey, giving hope for the future, and a newfound sense of who I am.

I decided it would be a great idea to host book signings, in the relaxing location of coffee shops and wine bars, in the heart of our local communities:

Saturday 13th November, mid day-3pm, Remedies, 40 High Street, Hythe CT21 5AT.

Thursday 2nd December, 11am-2pm, Root, 53 High Street, Hythe CT21 5AD. Come along, have a chat, grab a coffee, buy a book! I will be happy to sign your lovely new book with an uplifting message.

I am looking for coffee shops in Hythe and Folkestone to host future events. Please get in touch if you can help.

Email [email protected] or find me on Facebook.

Remember, there’s no need to wait for a book signing, order directly from me, any time. I usually keep books in stock and post them out quickly. Books, £10.99 each, plus postage and packing.

Every time I put a leaflet through a letter box, to promote my book signing events, I imagine I could be reaching out to someone who is suffering hidden hurt behind that front door. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone.

You can order Giving Women a Voice directly from Ann via email, or find the book on Amazon.
