Canterbury’s Andrew Buller launches book series

Children’s writer and illustrator, Andrew Buller, who lives just outside of Canterbury in Waltham, has been writing stories ever since he was young and has produced a seven-book series featuring The Rhymers to help build confidence and self-esteem in young children.

The Rhymers are children’s characters created by Andrew who he hopes will help every child who reads them to feel loved, be equipped to share their feelings and worries, and for them to appreciate how unique and special they are as they learn to use their gifts and talents. CommunityAd were lucky enough to catch up with Andrew Buller to find out a little bit about his passion for writing and his brand-new seven-book series.

Andrew, 45, is also a publisher, web designer and tutor, and has always had an affinity towards children’s books and movies, being a self-described kid at heart with no intention of growing up, telling us:

“I have loved writing and making up stories ever since I was a young child. I adored The Mr Men growing up, and their vibrant colours and simple illustrations have had a big influence on my own illustration style. Winning a book writing competition at secondary school gave me a first taste of what it was like to create and illustrate my own book, and I am extremely blessed to have gone on to create many more.”

How will working on a child’s confidence help them in later life?

“Our early experiences are so fundamental to how we go on to live our lives. I was bullied a lot at school and my confidence really suffered, taking many years to rediscover that belief and self-esteem. I long for others to not have to travel that same path, but to step confidently through each phase of life. Having the right tools and coping strategies begins early, and I would love to see the next generation equipped to face the challenges of life.

“I feel that at its heart confidence comes from feeling loved and valued, and that this is best reinforced by spending quality time with your child, taking the time to listen to them and get to know them better. Giving children lots of varied experiences and opportunities enables them to gain confidence, too.”
