Youngsters in Aylesham warned to stay away from building site

Parents are being asked to highlight the dangers of trespassing on construction sites to their children following recent vandalism at Persimmon Homes development in Aylesham.

A group of young people is believed to have caused considerable damage to houses being built on the Aylesham Garden Village development one evening earlier in April which included breaking windows, patio doors and damaging an excavator.

David Huggett, for Persimmon Homes, said: “This vandalism was quite mindless and caused a great deal of trouble for us. It took a few days to clear up all the broken glass and repair everything. Replacing the cab windows in the excavator proved particularly difficult.

“I would urge parents to talk to their children, especially teenagers, about the risks of wandering on to a building site. They can be hazardous places for the unwary and someone could easily injure themselves or someone else.

“If anybody does see someone on the site after hours behaving suspiciously, please would they report it as matter of urgency to the police by calling 999.”

Police are investigating the recent vandalism but would be glad to have any more information. Please leave a voice message via 101 if you are able to help.
