Woblin Book Launch

On Saturday 17th November CommunityAd attended the book launch of a new children’s book, at Elsewhere. The terrifically trendy venue in the centre of Margate offers customers cheap coffee, a vast vinyl selection as well as a diverse array of performances across their two floors. Elsewhere was buzzing and brimming with people of all ages.

Thanet illustrator Alex Foster who has bought ‘Woblin’ to life with his art was busy hanging prints on the walls, while author and proud ‘Thanet girl’ Lauren Busby was practicing with her young performers. Who were awaiting the stage to give the ever-growing crowd a reading from the book. Woblin is a children’s book about bravery, kindness and being smart the hope of Lauren and Alex when creating it was to reiterate that we don’t have to look, sound or be perfect in this modern day critical world and we should give respect to those who don’t look ‘normal’ as much as do anyone else.

Re-enforcing this theme the launch night welcomed three guest speakers to the stage, all of whom offered an insight on the themed words; Brave, Kind, & Smart. Susan Emm spoke of the need to let children be creative and urged all listen to dare to dream. Ann Wells spoke of the kindness she has encountered in her time as a scouts leader. Daniel Jackson an ambassador for the changing faces charity spoke of bravery and revealed he has a special relationship with Woblin as he is the inspiration for a character in the story, he is the real life ‘Disco Dan’. The speeches were followed by signings, where some seventy books were sold. Lauren thanked everyone for the ‘overwhelming support’ and CommunityAd want to thank her for creating a truly inspiring story with a good message.
