A bit about Wickford

Wickford is a thriving town in south Essex, within the Borough of Basildon, with a population of around 33,500 (2011 Census). The town’s name is believed to derive from the Saxon words ‘wic’ meaning dairy farm and ‘ford’ meaning river crossing. Wickford has grown from a small agricultural village into a bustling commuter town, thanks to its excellent rail links to London Liverpool Street via the Southend Victoria line. The town centre has recently undergone redevelopment, offering a mix of shops, cafes, and local businesses, and Wickford hosts a popular weekly market. The River Crouch flows through the town, complemented by Wick Country Park – a 50-acre green space ideal for walking, cycling, and nature spotting. The town is also home to Beauchamps High School and Bromfords School, both of which serve the growing community. Wickford’s sense of community is celebrated through various events, clubs, and festivals held throughout the year.
