Unique Wedding Celebration Brings Joy to Broadstairs Care Home

wedding celebration at care home

In a heartwarming event at Chartwell House Care Home in Broadstairs, Jaye and Lea Hurst recreated their wedding day to the delight of residents and family unable to attend the original ceremony in Cumbria. Despite not being able to celebrate with a traditional confetti walk at their original wedding venue on August 1, the couple found an innovative solution that brought together both family and care home residents.

Bringing the Celebration Closer to Home

The couple, both integral members of the Chartwell House community, decided to recreate a part of their wedding ceremony at the care home. Lea’s grandfather, mother, and two aunts had been too unwell to make the long journey north for the original wedding. This celebration allowed them to witness the vows they initially missed.

The bond Jaye and her family have built with the care home residents made the decision to celebrate there a natural one. Jaye, who joined Chartwell House in January as an admissions manager, along with her husband and daughters, have been active participants in the community, often visiting and spending quality time with the residents.

A Memorable Day for All

The celebration took place on August 19, with Chartwell House’s garden and lounge specially decorated for the occasion. Jaye expressed her joy, saying, “It felt completely natural to bring the celebrations back to Chartwell House and share our vows with everyone.” Music played a significant role in the festivities, provided by a singer named Zoe, whose mother resides at the home. The couple’s first dance was to the song “Still the One” by Shania Twain, marking a highlight of the event.

The reception was complete with a lovingly made wedding cake crafted by Anne, the grandmother of a Chartwell House employee, while the home’s chefs contributed with cupcakes for all attendees. The recreation of the wedding vows and the throwing of confetti made for a joyous atmosphere that was apparent in the stories and laughter shared by all present.

Extending Family Through Community Bonds

For Lea, seeing his relatives among the crowd held particular significance. Not only did his family finally witness the vows live, but they also participated in a community celebration that symbolised the extended family environment fostered at Chartwell House. “There were lots of laughs, a few happy tears, and so much love in the room,” Jaye recounted, encapsulating the close-knit spirit of the day.

The event underscores the deep interpersonal connections fostered within these care communities, highlighting how they become an extended family for both staff and residents alike. By recreating their wedding, Jaye and Lea not only honoured their familial relationships but also the bonds formed with those they care for daily.

Looking Ahead

This unique wedding celebration in Broadstairs serves as a touching example of how community relationships can transform meaningful personal events into shared joyous occasions. It highlights the importance of flexibility and creativity in involving all loved ones in special moments, regardless of the challenges posed by distance or health.
